11:00 AM Westin Austin Downtown: Paramount 2-3 Special Death: The Import in Ephemera Using Walter Benjamin's concept of aura, Michael Krulwich will investigate the loss of uniqueness through commodification and dispersion of the original in art, social experi- ence and marketing. Michael will discuss the value of aura recovery today, questioning whether uniqueness is a worthwhile and realistic goal by providing examples of cur- rent applications and future implications. Michael Krulwich Solo • Intermediate 12:30 PM Westin Austin Downtown: Paramount 1 Page to Stage: Creating New Art from Old Plays Using extant reviews, playbills, engravings, songs, paintings and historical references provided by scholar collaborators, the Hidden Room Theatre has been working to rec- reate original practices for plays from the 17th and 18th centuries. In doing so, they have not only been able to shed light on how these plays may have been performed and received but have created forms of theater not seen in the modern era. Beth Burns, Eric Colleary, Tiffany Stern, Judd Farris Panel • Intermediate 12:30 PM Westin Austin Downtown: Paramount 2-3 SCIWARS: Dark Side Tactics to Fight for Science Science is under attack. The enemies don't fight with logic – they fight dirty. From anti-vaxxers to climate-deniers; Dr Oz to the Food Babe; Coca Cola to Shell . . . these groups manage to fight against facts and win! But studying the success of science deniers reveals incredible communication tools we can use to fight back! You'll leave with an arsenal of psychological tools to use in any campaign.
