Da ng back to 1736, this structure is Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse. Three lightkeepers' co ages, a military ba ery nearby and exhibits help interpret the island's rich history, including the me of the indigenous Euchee tribe, the history of Fort Screven and Tybee Island's golden era. 2 Get up close and personal with marine life at Tybee Island Marine Science Center. This 5,400-square-foot structure on North Beach is a treasure for families, students and groups. Free wheelchair rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the lifeguard sta on (Ocean Rescue) located behind the pier. 6 step bACK iN time at Fort Pulaski Na onal Monument. During the Civil War, the Union Army forced the Confederate garrison inside Fort Pulaski to surrender in one of the first demonstra ons of rifled cannon power. This Civil War-era monument located on Cockspur Island between Savannah and Tybee Island now offers regular cannon and musket firings and other features like the Parro Rifle, a 30-pound reproduc on cannon, one of the largest in the Na onal Park Service.
