7 15 Issue 79 / 2015 FILM guestlist.net Hitting the capital from October 7th – 18th, the BFI have revealed the full programme for their London Film Festival The LFF opens strongly with the historical drama Suffragette, penned by Abi Morgan and starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham-Carter and Meryl Streep, and closes with Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs, which features Michael Fassbender in the titular role. With the festival screening more than 200 feature films, there are plenty more that are well worth a watch. Beasts of No Nation, a Netflix original film directed by Cary Fukunaga, who delivered the excellent first series of True Detective, is the story of a African child solider with Idris Elba taking on the role of a warlord. It screens on October 8th. The following day brings Ben Wheatley's highly anticipated J.G. Ballard adaptation High- Rise, starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Elisabeth Moss and Sienna Miller. The Program, the story of the rise and fall of Lance Armstrong directed by Stephen Frears, screens on October 10th, with Ben Foster starring as the disgraced cyclist and Chris O'Dowd as the Irish journalist David Walsh who's set to prove his guilt. Johnny Depp's latest, Black Mass, in which he takes on the role of infamous Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, with Benedict Cumberbatch as his politician brother, shows on October 11th. LFF is showing many of the films that featured at Cannes earlier this year, including the Grand Prix winner Son Of Saul on October 10th, Yorgios Lanthimos' The Lobster on October 13th, and Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara on October 14th. It's shaping up to be an incredible twelve days of cinema. BFI London FILm FestIvaL 2015 comIng soon The Martian The Walk Only one man – Phillippe Petit – has ever walked the gap between the World Trade Center towers. Using cutting edge technology and techniques, Robert Zemeckis tells this incredible story, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role and Ben Kingsley playing his mentor Papa Rudy. The Walk is absolutely made for the big screen. See it in IMAX if you can and really experience touching the sky. Crimson Peak Co-written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, this gothic horror romance flick features an all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska. Essentially it's a haunted house story – Edith Cushing (Wasikowska) marries Sir Thomas Sharpe (Hiddleston) but he, his house and his sister Lucille (Chastain) have a lot of secrets. Stephen King called it "fucking terrifying" so best go with a friend. September 30th October 9th October 16th Ridley Scott helms this space epic, based on Andy Weir's best-selling novel, so naturally we're expecting big things. The film has already sparked excitement amongst NASA due to Scott's adherence to scientific details, so it is looking very promising. Also starring Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Sean Bean, The Martian tells the story of Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars after a storm and has to find a way to survive.
