On August 26th, singer and songwriter Charlotte Church lent her voice to the cause, performing in front of Shell's London HQ to protest against the ice drilling that the company has been doing for the past few weeks. She sang a version of 'This Bitter Earth', accompanied by a small orchestra, who also played a 'Requiem for the Arctic Ice' which has been composed for the occasion. It was a really rainy day, but nonetheless people gathered for the protest and endured the bad weather to show how their support. Dozens of celebrities modelled for the campaign, and their giant photos have been hung near the biggest oil companies' sites, the first one being Shell near Waterloo Underground station in London. Westwood's t-shirts are made from pure cotton, and have already been bought by over 7 million people. He said "I chose this charity because of personal issues, close relatives of mine have not been able to come to my gigs, or they've been able to come but they've had to leave at nine o'clock and the opener's just finished at nine o'clock. For me, for a person to not have access to expressive arts, that is real confinement. You need that freedom of being able to go to a gig and feel release". Afrikan Boy also nominated George The Poet, Akala, Mikill Pane and Gemma Cairney for the challenge, so watch this space! 1.
