The festival ran from 17th to 30th August
and has included artists such as Anna
Calvi who performed an intimate show at
Queen Elizabeth Hall. On Friday August
22nd, the Italian folk singer Carmen
Consoli performed Royal Festival Hall
along with the Swedish artist Anna von
Hausswolff.
Anna von Hausswolff started the gig with
her powerful voice and the incredible
sound of her band. Gothic vibes and a
dark atmosphere filled the Royal Festival
Hall. She is an incredible rising star of
indie rock and she is quite deservedly
compared to the iconic Kate Bush. She
debuted with the well-received album
Singing From The Grave and then her
career took off and brought her to
London. Her voice is unique, and it has
an incredible ability to enrapture the
audience.
Then Carmen Consoli took over. The
Italian folk singer started her successful
career with her debut album called Due
Parole. She has recently published her
latest album called L'abitudine di tornare.
Expectations were high and she did not
disappoint. The concert was brilliant and
her fans were thrilled. She waved her
hand with a "Ciao Londra, Hello London"
and then began with the iconic italian
song 'Casta Diva' and she finished it with
her most famous anthems, such as 'Parole
di burro' and 'Bésame Giuda'.
Nearly at the end of the her performance,
the majority of the audience decided to
leave their seats and go down in front of
the main stage. Her music has such an
amazing energy and vibrant force that
it was almost impossible to sit and listen
to 'L'ultimo Bacio' or 'Blunotte' without
starting to dance and sing her lyrics. The
fans asked twice for a repeat performance
and she didn't say no.
It was an emotional concert and a truly
unforgettable night, and such an hit for
David Byrne!
