He is a talented singer- songwriter who retains a punk edge. From an underground scene that rallied against the machinations of the music industry, Turner has become hugely successful through the old-fashioned talent. He didn't go for the easiest way, he worked hard to get to the position he's in now. Like his previous albums, Positive Songs for Negative People is representative of another chapter in Frank's life. He sings about relationships, "I haven't been myself, I resolve to start again," and reflects about life in acoustic opener 'Angel Islington', "I got me a future, I'm not stuck on the past!" The album easily mixes genres, not focusing only on punk-rock. Folk has its moment too, like on the mandolin-heavy, melodic 'The Opening Act of Spring'. With Positive Songs for Negative People, Turner seems no longer focused on what's ahead but on looking back on what's gotten him to where he is now. He is quieter, ruminating and pensive. It is an album almost in past tense, combining sadness in hope in a way that only hindsight can. It leaves the listener wondering what's next. If we take his word for it, it will be different. Sometimes it may sound a little prosaic but it's not possible to deny Turner's music qualities. Positive Songs for Negative People is probably of the 2015's most interesting albums and is well worth a listen. He first gained attention thanks to his cover of Adele's 'Someone like You' with Emily Luther. Now his first single 'Marvin Gaye', taken from his album Nine Track Mind, has topped the charts of UK, Ireland and New Zealand. It's a fresh pop single with a perfect dance vibe, something that is reflected in the video, which takes place at a high school dance.
