22 ISSUE 86 / 2016 TRAVEL The French Riviera: Lake Kariba is the largest man-made body of water in Africa, visitors might feel as though they're in Mediterranean Europe, which is a mistake that's easily forgiven, but once the sun sets, there is no doubt that they're in Africa. With spectacular views and a number of activities to take part in including; fishing, water sports and fresh crayfish, it has everything both for travellers who want to relax and those who wish to do something a little more extreme, you surely won't get bored anytime soon and for a truly special way of enjoying all of this and more, visitors can take a luxurious houseboat holiday. The Valley of the Leopard: Zambia is one of the few African countries that can guarantee the HUGE array of Africa's wildlife in full scope. All the national parks and almost all of its accommodations being unfenced, it allows visitors to get a real feel of nature at its finest. One spot in particular though is South Luangwa National Park, dubbed, "The Valley of the Leopard." Largely unexplored and having one of the highest densities of big game anywhere in Africa, this is a must for anyone visiting, you'd have to be mad not to. Getting Up Close and personal With Nature: Zambia is renowned as one of the best places for walking safaris, the sheer amount of wildlife and lack of restrictions are just one of the reasons Zambia's walking safaris are so popular. From tracking lions on foot to elephant filled islands, Lower Zambezi National Park is arguably the best place to do this, especially since considering Zambia's guides have grown up in closer proximity to the African Bush than most others, allowing for a complete safari walk that'll leave you satisfied yet still wanting more. 3. Finishing Your Meal Despite how tasty your meal may be, in some countries it's actually considered rude to clean your plate. In China, if you finish your entire meal, you are implying that you weren't given enough food. However, it's also considered as good manners to talk with your mouth full, burp after your meal and even farting based on the situation! 2. The A-Ok Commonly used in the English speaking world as well as other countries as a sign that everything is okay, great and/or perfect. In Brazil, however, it is considered extremely rude. One hilarious example of this is when Richard Nixon visited Brazil in the 1950s and flashed the sign to a crowd awaiting his arrival, which then responded with boos. 1. Thumbs Up A friendly gesture in the western world, the equivalent of giving the middle finger to someone in the Middle East, East Africa and South America. The thumbs up has been confusing people for thousands of years, we'd hate to see what kind of trouble those people got into. Travel is a major part of our lives. HAND GESTURES AROUND THE WORLD We all use hand gestures when we, regardless of whether or not we realise it, but hand gestures mean different things in different countries, here are just a few you should be aware of in your travels. TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE IN ZAMBIA Apart from Victoria Falls, Zambia still remains one of the world's most unknown entities, even to the most veteran travellers. With the visa process having been simplified for international visitors as well as the World Health Organisation declaring the country to be a yellow-fever-free zone, there's no reason not to travel there!
