Tell us about how the story started for you guys. School, is the boring answer. We all met when we were really young, like 14, I've known Haydon since I was 8 so it's been a very long time, it's been 6 years now since we've been a band. I imagine you get a lot of fans from different walks of life at your live shows and people who wouldn't usually meet, are you kind of like about community? Yeah, for sure, I think community is important, not just in like the fan-live show dynamic but in general. Do you get quite involved with your fans; do you spend a lot of time with them? We try to, we always try to go out after shows to meet and say hi to the people who spend money to come to the show and have the best of their time, you know? It's important. With the advance of social media, are you aware of how you're being perceived in the media; are you aware of the difference between in your head and what you're actually being perceived as, as a band? Yeah, there is a disparity, for sure, but it hasn't gotten to the stage yet where we have to worry about that. Like it's all still quite level, it's not been too much of a disruption. It's all still quite close to us, which is nice. As you grow, do you think that you'll still have that clarity? Yeah, I hope so. Obviously there's always gonna be things that will be out of your control, but as long as you can stay on top of important things and kind of just be chilled out about it and not take yourself too seriously. Your Twitter shares a lot of Green Peace stuff, is that something you feel strong about? We're really into animal welfare and climate change and the fact that it is real and we can do something about it now if everyone hops on the band wagon. It's pretty manic stuff, like with the whole Paris shooting, how do you feel about the whole terrorist thing at the moment? It's obviously awful. I don't know, I think it's weird because with religion, the main focus points of religion are love and peace, togetherness, tolerance, compassion and that should be at the forefront. Does it worry you that that could've potentially been you guys? You can't really live like that, it could've been anyone, yeah but you got to try and get on with life as much as you can. What do you think happens when you die? That is the ultimate question; I think there's life after death, some sort of life after death. We hope there's something and if there's not, we won't know about it. What do you think your purpose is as a band? These questions are so deep. This is the deepest interview. I don't know, it depends how deep you want to go, if there's a purpose to it then we were all meant to meet each other, right? And that was like a purpose and forming a bad was a purpose in some shape or form, but I don't know if there is a purpose, I mean, it'd be nice to think that there are things we're meant to do and things we're meant to achieve in life, I guess it's kind of like a comfortable way of living, it's a reassuring way to live, and I guess I do believe that to a certain degree, but to be able to know what the purpose is, I'm not sure, but doing this feels right like it doesn't feel wrong and I think that's the best way to go to it. You'll just be unhappy and depressed if you're doing the wrong thing. 2016 ISSUE 86 INDIE 49 Arguably one of the best bands on the Indie music scene at the moment, Sunddara Karma have performed alongside renowned artists in the field such as Wolf Alice and Marika Hackman.
