9 Be Easy Editor's Note O ne night, a Friday night, a long time ago now, I stayed over at my friend Larry's house - a sleep over. The next day, early in the morning, we had a big football game against the Cedarcrest Tigers. We were the River Oaks Bengals. It was 1975. I was 10; Larry was 11. We had fried eggs for breakfast. I had never had my eggs sunny side up before that morning. We won the game. I know because we won every game. Our neighborhood bred its share of winners. Being with Larry and with his family was really cool from what I remember. Especially being around Larry's sister, Cherie. Cherie was my age. Cherie was a cheerleader, and my cousin's girlfriend at the time. The only reason I'm telling you this story is because I wanted you to know that 38 years ago when I was only 10, I discovered for myself something about Cherie that I couldn't help but recall time and again over the last few months as I worked with her and edited her book. Cherie is happy and most at home with family to love all around her. Cherie then and Cherie now is the same joyful person she's al- ways been. She's the same kind-hearted girl she was in 1975 when she was the prettiest girl in the whole neighborhood. Cherie's still beautiful even though a lot else has changed in nearly 40 years, most obviously, a lot of life. But that emanating a most noticeable
