GoldanDBlack express • volume 24, express 28 • 19 BY BRIAN NEUBERT BNeubert@GoldandBlack.com PURDUE BIG MAN TARGETS EMERGING The past week has been an eventful one in Purdue's pursuit of post players for its 2015 and 2016 recruiting classes. For years now, Boilermaker coaches have tracked the prog- ress of centers Caleb Swanigan, Barret Benson and Joey Brunk, all for the 2016 class. It wound up offering schol- arships to all three, though Swanigan has accelerated his high school graduation and re- classified to the 2015 class. The five-star recruit once held a par- ticular affinity for Purdue — at least if his Twitter activity as a high school freshman could be believed — and now has an of- fer years later. Thing is, he now has offers from all over the place. Among them: Michigan State, Louis- ville, Arizona and Connecticut. More may come, also. Purdue has never seemed set on signing a big man in its 2015 class, for which scholar- ships look to be at a premium, but would be happy to take Swanigan should it win out in the Homestead High School star's hyper-competitive re- cruitment. Benson, whose parents went to Purdue — his father is former Boilermaker football star Cliff Benson — landed his offer after Purdue had watched him closely through recent sum- mers and springs and this past high school season. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Rivals.com four-star prospect from Hinsdale (Ill.) South also has offers from Indiana, Kansas State, Penn State, DePaul and Loyola and interest from Illinois, Michigan and others. Brunk, of Southport High School near Indianapolis, was offered during an unofficial vis- it last week. He's also scored of- fers from Iowa, Xavier and New Mexico. Michigan State and Notre Dame are recruiting him as well. STILL LOOKING Purdue's in the thick of the hunt for West Virginia transfer Eron Harris, an Indianapolis Lawrence North graduate who led the Mountaineers in scor- ing as a sophomore.
