Moscow Arena a couple of years ago, when we first started, supporting a band called Mummy Troll. There were like 10 000 people, it was surreal, you go out on stage and you just see these little Russian faces. So yeah, that was my highlight. Daniel: There was a big step up then. It was a nice lifestyle. Mike: Last week we were in Ireland for Saint Patrick's Day. We had five gigs and we had like a last minute show on Saint Patrick's Day. It was our friend's birthday so we had a few drinks and decided to play. We made it more fun that day. Daniel: Yeah Dublin on Patrick's day is a definite must, definite must. HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED IN FRANCE? DANIEL: We have played in France yeah, in Paris. MIKE: At the La Maroquinerie. DID YOU LIKE IT? MARK: It was great actually, we supported a band called Oceansize and we were supposed to go on first but we got moved to main support so it was quite busy at the time we played and there was a very good vibe. Didn't see much of France though, we just got on a bus, played, and went to the next venue. AND DID YOU LIKE FRENCH GROUPIES? MARK: French groupies? No comment. WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2014? MIKE: We've got loads of festivals booked up. The Great Escape is coming up in a few weeks, we're playing at Blissfields Festival as well which should be a good one. Tramelines in Sheffield. Yeah that's pretty much what our summer is gonna be, you know, red van again - traveling. WHAT KIND OF STRUGGLES HAVE YOU FACED AS A BAND? MARK: For me, it was just keeping us together, keeping the core of the band, keeping the faith, because so many times you get promised things. Keep it going, keep everyone's moral up. You know, it doesn't always get right but it 's how you deal with it, failures deem into success and we love it so… Good challenges. Daniel: Well, when it's four of you, you've always got someone to help if you feel a little bit rubbish, there's always someone who isn't feeling rubbish. MARK: I do feel sorry for those who are just like one man, acoustic. Just going on your own, I know you've got a team of sound engineers but it's not the same as having your boys. I CAN IMAGINE. WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR LAST VIDEO? DAN: The last video was recorded in the studio; we had a massive party that night. MARK: Yeah we just said, "Mad party and we're shooting the video, everyone come down". We started about 8 o'clock, we played like a live gig, five tracks, our friend Chris had to film it and we did the song twice to get the footage for the whole song, but everyone was so pissed by the end of it. MIKE: I underestimated how rowdy and drunk everyone would be. We knew a lot of people but friends brought friends, we were like "It will be alright, he knows him, he say he's a friend. Alright that's fine." Then at the end we were like, "who broke that?" MARK: "Who wrote that on the wall?" MIKE: Because it's our place, I was going around like "Who put their drink there, it's my drum stuff, leave that, leave that!" Mark: I walked in and was like "Oh please come on get dressed", it was two completely strangers just having it away in my bed. "Come on guys". AND WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT FRENCH MUSIC? MARK: I love the Phoenix Dan: Justice Mike: Daft Punk Mark: I think there is a good scene in France. DANIEL: Yeah there are good groups. MARK: And they're supporting artists, aren't they? If you're an artist you're alright compared to England. DANIEL: Really? MARK: I don't know, I made that up. DANIEL: Haha let's go with that, let's move to France. YEAH, YOU SHOULD COME FOR SURE. LAST QUESTION, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME ECHOTAPE? MARK: I actually walked in on someone having sex one night and they were just screaming the name out loud. It just came to me, it was like, "Why are you screaming Echotape?" and they just carried on. I asked them again, looked around me and just screamed "Echotape", I was like "Please take your penis out of her…" and that was pretty much it. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD TO OUR READERS? MARK: Check out our live session that we did for you guys, download the single and just come to the show! With every show we're trying to make it a bit of a ruckus night. No matter where it is, like tonight, it's a small number but it should be crammed out, it's always a good vibe. That's for sure. THANKS GUYS. 7 31 Issue 64 / 2014 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net " I actually walked in on someone having sex one night and they were just screaming the name out loud.
