GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 7 • 26 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com B ernard Pollard is the fourth Boil- ermaker already to see his NFL season come to an end early. The Titans' safety left Tennessee's loss to Cleveland in the fourth quar- ter Sunday because of what turned out to be a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Pollard, who is in his ninth NFL sea- son, joins Nick Hardwick and Greg Latta on Injured Reserve lists this sea- son. Hardwick was hurt earlier in the year, deciding to sit after the latest in a series of stingers. And Latta was in- jured in training camp, with the Bron- cos deciding to keep the undrafted rookie defensive end on their roster. Also, Oakland running back Kory Sheets suffered a torn Achilles in a Raid- ers' preseason game. He was waived. Pollard, who had 27 tackles this season, including a sack, is in his second year as a Titan, having started 21 consecutive games there since arriving after winning a Super Bowl in his final season with the Baltimore Ra- vens. ORTON WINS IN DEBUT Kyle Orton might have looked a bit rusty in his first half Sunday, but by the second, he was ready to go. The former Boilermaker quar- terback rallied Buffalo from a two- touchdown deficit in the second half, helping the Bills to a 17-14 victory in his first start. After Detroit kicker Alex Henery missed his third field goal with only a minute left, Orton drove the Bills into position for the game-winner. And Dan Carpenter came through, hitting a 58-yarder for the win. Earlier, Orton had thrown a fourth-quarter touchdown pass that, in combination with the ensuing two-point conversion, tied the game at 14. "He had his mistakes but he had his veteran time where he lifted us up and moved the ball and had a couple of reads where he saw the coverage and shot it in there," rookie receiver Sammy Watkins told ESPN. com after the win, which improved Buffalo to 3-2. Orton broke a long streak for the Bills, too, with his 308-yard passing day being Buffalo's first of more than 300 yards since Week 10 of the 2012 season, a streak of 27 straight games. "It's great to have a veteran out there who has seen a lot," running back Fred Jackson told ESPN.com "He was able to bring that to the game (Sunday)." j Pollard Joins Injury List Tennessee Titans Safety Bernard Pollard is out for the season after rupturing his Achilles vs. Cleveland on Sunday.
