Wednesday night, the Boilermakers signed former Colorado State guard Jon Octeus to scholarship papers that will al- low the graduate transfer to play his final season of college basketball at Purdue, with immediate eligibility. The 6-foot-4 Miami native started all 32 of Colorado State's games last sea- son and averaged a near-team-high 33.6 minutes. A 41-percent shooter overall and 36-percent three-point shooter, Oc- teus was the Rams' third-leading scorer with an average of 13.4 points per game. Octeus graduated from CSU this summer with plans to enroll at UCLA for his senior year, with the Bruins counting on him to likely be their starting point guard this season. He found out months after sign- ing, though, that he was denied admission to UCLA's graduate program in education. With a little help from Matt Painter's long-time connection to Bruin assistant Ed Schilling and assistant coach Greg Gary's ties to South Florida, Octe- us came back on Purdue's radar, visited last weekend and signed Wednesday evening. He expects to practice with his new teammates Jon Octeus has signed scholarship papers with Purdue and will join the Boilermakers immediately.
