36 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATE VOLUME 26, ISSUE 3 Abby Abel 2 5-5 • G • Fr. Breakdown: Purdue loves the walk-on's grit and determination, and that she's learned the system and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Abel's not played a lot, only at the end of the Incarnate Word blowout, but has quickly become a fan favorite. Stat Watch: Abel has played only three minutes. Justine Hall 5 5-10 • G • So. Breakdown: Toward the end of the non- conference season, Hall was starting to show signs of making an impact. Purdue went to the bench early against Word, and Hall scored a career-high 11. Her length makes her an intriguing prospect, but it's been slow to translate to the court. Stat Watch: Hall scored 15 points in the first 10 games this season, 11 of them coming against the Cardinals. Hayden Hamby 10 5-7 • G • Sr Breakdown: Hamby has worked years to become a versatile scorer at this level, after being mostly a slasher during her high school career. It might be finally coming together. She averaged about a three-pointer per game in non- conference play, giving opponents a reason to guard her on the perimeter. Stat Watch: Hamby's field goal percentage her first three seasons was 31.2; it's up to 40 percent this year. Bridget Perry 13 6-2 • F • Jr. Breakdown: Purdue moved Perry into the post in the hopes that she'd be able to create mismatches. The potential downside was that she wouldn't be able to rebound. But she's held her own, averaging a team-high 6.4 boards in the first 10 games. Stat Watch: Perry has two double-doubles this season, equaling the two she had last year. April Wilson 25 5-7 • G • Sr. Breakdown: Hard to put Wilson's value into words. Maybe this: Purdue would be lost without her. She's given the Boilermakers a bit of hope after the lost season, making them believe that a return trip to the postseason is a possibility. She's playing at an All-Big Ten level. Stat Watch: As of mid- December, Wilson had 888 career points, putting her on pace to break 1,000 midway through the Big Ten. 36 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED Purdue Women's Lineup — Kyle Charters
