PEPSI RIGHTFULLY PULL KENDALL JENNER'S PEPSI AD! Reasons why this horrific practice occurs are usually because it is commonly believed that females will not earn as much as men, or that they will become less successful in general. Infanticide is truly a terrible practice, which is why it is a relief to know that some Indian doctors are trying to combat the practice by delivering baby girls for free of charge. Dr. Ganesh Rakh began the practice of delivering baby girls at no cost to parents seven years ago, after witnessing an angry father slap a woman after realising that her unborn baby was a girl. Rakh has said that informing parents that their child was a girl and not a boy was harder than informing them of a passing relative. Rakh's practice of not charging a fee to deliver girls has had a huge impact across the whole of India. Over 17,000 doctors have either reduced fees or agreed to also deliver girls for free, after Rakh began delivering girls free of charge. 2017 / ISSUE 98 7 GUESTLIST Sexism has always played a large role in Indian society, which is why female infanticide (the killing of newborn girls) has and sadly still is occurring in the country. INDIAN DOCTORS FIGHT SEXISM BY DELIVERING BABY GIRLS FREE! CAT RACE GOOD EGGS SMELLS DODGY Pepsi have pulled their recent advert after fair criticism that it used protest movements such as 'Black Lives Matter' for commercial gain. If you are yet to see the whole ad, prepare yourself for a cringe-worthy 2 minutes and 40 seconds. I am all for a company embracing the idea of activism and shedding more light on political, social and cultural struggles but not to thoughtlessly sell their product. The advert has drawn obvious comparisons to the photo of Ieshia Evans facing down police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana last year at a demonstration. After Alton Sterling was fatally shot by police. If that photo was part of the inspiration behind the ad then that is pretty tasteless. Ieshia Evans is a black woman, a nurse and mother who travelled from New York to be part of the protests, compared to Kendall Jenner, a rich, white, 'celebrity' who epitomises someone who has had an easy life so far. GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE If you are comfortable with the way your life is going and everything is hunky dory, your now playing the game right. Get uncomfortable! Do things that are outside of your comfort zone and learn to be happy being uncomfortable. For it is when you are uncomfortable then the magic comes out. Then do you start performing at your maximum capacity, your adrenaline and buzz pulls all the knowledge from within you and the universe and somehow like always you will make it happen.
