GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 23 • 2 HOW THE SEEDS HAVE FARED With a week left in the regular season, we know this much, the Boilermakers will be somewhere between a No. 2 and No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Here's how those teams have fared in the 17 previous tournaments: No. 2 Seed 22-10 (.688) 6-time champs No. 3 Seed 15-14 (.517) 2-time champs No. 4 seed 11-16 (.407) 1-time champ No. 5 seed 11-17 (.393) Never Here's how the Boilermakers have done as those seeds: But Buckeye freshman prodigy D'Angelo Russell went off in the second half, Ohio State picked up its defensive pressure and the Boil- ermakers undercut themselves by missing a bunch of free throws. "It was just our fault," fresh- man Dakota Mathias said after he missed two of three foul shots dur- ing one trip after Purdue missed back-to-back one-and-one foul shots. "We've got to be better than that." Purdue hasn't been rebound- ing lately like it was earlier in the season, an issue that might come to a head in East Lansing if it persists. The Spartans are the best re- bounding team in the conference, with Purdue close behind by most measures. But the Boilermakers have been shooting the ball better, 7-of- 15 from three-point range against Rutgers, 8-of-18 against Ohio State. Purdue will probably have to shoot and rebound well in East Lansing in order to land the win that might take it off the bubble. This is the third time in the Matt Painter Era at Purdue that the Boilermakers have been in this sort of position late in the year. In 2007, it was generally thought it had to win a Big Ten Tournament game to get in the NCAA field. It did, then did. In 2012, Purdue was on very shaky ground until it ruined senior day at No. 11 Michigan late in the season. Wednesday, Purdue gets an - other chance to sully a senior day and puts its name in the brackets in marker all in one fell swoop. j Weekly Pic Tom Campbell From the family's point of view, senior day ceremonies are emotional. As Whitney Bays addressed the crowd Sunday, her sister Brittany Bays, Brittany's son Arian, father Gery Strickland and mom Susan had a strong reaction. 111111 11 1 No. 2 1-3 .250 No. 3 5-2 .714 No. 4 0-1 .000 No. 5 1-1 .500
