PLANET EARTH HITS BACK Nature documentary series with urgent message and stunning visuals returns to TV screens David Attenborough returns to TV screens in what must be moving image's greatest triumphs, the nature series Planet Earth. The original Planet Earth originally hit 130 countries in 2006. A decade later, Planet Earth II is back to remind people of one of the most forgotten and important truths of our time - the life that extends beyond towns and cities. A probably flawless premise for a narrative, an animal's story is incapable of politics, controversy or prejudice. Freed from opinions, viewers can relate to the animals' struggles on a deep emotional, thought- free level. In its refusal to preach, it provides excellent escapism, but also effortlessly galvanises environmentalist sentiment. Who can't get on board with saving baby elephants? Cue one of the highest grossing franchises in the world. In episode one, one baby iguana escapes a seemingly inevitable capture by a huge tribe of racer snakes and it says all anyone needs to know about surviving against all odds better than Hollywood ever could. More at guestlist.net The charity have stated that the aim of the cards is to raise awareness during a time of the year where people are at their most relaxed. Doctors of the World are calling their campaign 'Tis the season to give a damn'. A REASON IS JUST AN EXCUSE Don't give reasons for anything. Reasons are lame. If you come in to work late, your boss doesn't want to hear why. Just tell them what you're going to do to make up for that and how much productivity you're going to get out of the day. Any reason you give is just a reason you might give again. Any reason you are not doing what you're supposed to do is as excuse. TIS THE SEASON TO GIVE A DAMN Charity Director Leigh Daynes said 'This Christmas we're asking people to see the realities that we see of the war torn Middle East, and share some goodwill with a donation to help us give medical aid to people in desperate need.' A drone strike. A missile replaces the Star of Bethlehem. A bombed out house replaces the stable. The scenes are combined with actual photos taken in Syria by the Press Association. Mike Oughton, the man behind the cards said 'We saw a huge irony in the war-torn imagery of the Middle East today, when compared to the imagery of the nativity, and its message of 'peace on earth' and 'goodwill to all men'.
