WHY WE SHOULD PROTEST CHANNEL 5'S 'INSIDE THE GANG' Although Saudi women are forced to wear burkas, they are also not allowed to drive, get married without consent, or make police complaints. they're generally treated as second class citizens. However, things have started to move in a positive direction as a new policy has ruled that Saudi women no longer need a man's permission to seek healthcare, employment or education. It was previously the case that a male guardian would have had to approve all three. This new ruling was announced by none other than King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud himself, and while it may only seem like a small step in the right direction for one of the most gender-segregated countries in the world, it's important to remember that all change starts with small steps. 2017 / ISSUE 99 7 GUESTLIST It's no secret that Saudi Arabia does not have a perfect track record when it comes to women's rights, or human rights in general. SAUDI ARABIAN WOMEN NO LONGER NEED MEN'S PERMISSION TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT OR EDUCATION! CAT RACE GOOD EGGS SMELLS DODGY Since Channel 5 released their documentary; 'Inside the Gang' it has been met with outrage, and here's why. The documentary is meant to investigate gang culture in London but only worked to reinforce negative stereotypes of black youth and glamourise the gang world. Cause that's clearly what black people need right now! This isn't even the first time that Channel 5 have got it so wrong. In 2016 they filmed the documentary 'Gangland' which could have featured a couple of positive black role models, if they hadn't been cut out from the show! With the lack of representation already given to black people, shows like these only do more damage than good. Especially with the amount of positive black role models that the media could use but choose not to. It seems like the media is intentionally promoting a one dimensional view of the black community, and documentaries like 'Gangland' and 'Inside the Gang' keep on reinforcing it time and time again. SELF IMPROVEMENT If you really want something that you feel might be hard to hard to attain, stop thinking about the goal. If you want something don't think about the goal, it's not all about winning, it's about trying to become as good as you can. If instead of aiming for results just try to be excellent, the results will come! Try and be as good as you can, improve your craft, imagine you were the best in your field, do you think you will have everything wanted, of course you would! Cause you are best in your bloody field.
