f
mance elevated him to the No. 1 spot — and seriously
raised expectations for 2014. Hazell said he wants Mo-
stert to get 20 touches per game on offense. Mostert had
12 last season.
But Shoop also still will find a balance of getting Hunt
touches, too.
As a sophomore in a more limited role, Hunt was dy-
namic and explosive, especially when he had the ball in
space and in the flat. Last season, Hunt was second on
the team in receptions, and he just as easily could be
among the team leaders in 2014, considering he's going
to see some time in the slot as well.
"With him fitting into our offense, it's all about touch-
es," Appleby said. "We're trying to get him touches any
way that we can, whether that be throwing him a bub-
ble, whether that be giving him the jet sweep, whether
that be lining him up in the backfield and handing it off
or lining up as a receiver and running routes. We just
want to get the ball in his hands as much as we can and
we're designing as many different ways to do that as
possible.
"He's definitely one of the most electric guys we have
and in the country, I would argue."
Beyond Mostert and Hunt, the coaching staff likes
redshirt freshmen David Yancey and Keyante Green
as more physical options, and incoming freshman D.J.
Knox could be a playmaker-in-the-making, though he
may not be needed in 2014.
WIDE RECEIVERS
There's the long, rangy, youngster who can make
plays downfield — a guy Hazell already has said has
NFL potential despite only playing one season — in
DeAngelo Yancey.
There are the smaller, quick guys who can just as eas-
ily come on a jet sweep than catch a pass underneath in
Knauf and Anthrop.
There's the well-rounded, consistent route-runner in
Posey.
There's the still-learning second-year player, whose
football IQ may be the best of the bunch, in Dan Mon-
teroso.
And there are other fill-in pieces each with potential
strengths in Shane Mikesky, Bilal Marshall, Myles Nor-
wood, Trae Hart and Gregory Phillips.
Purdue's receiving corps is hefty in numbers but,

In his first college season, DeAngelo Yancey showed a knack
for being able to make big plays in the receiving game. In
Year 2, he needs to raise his game a level and become a
more consistent threat.
