72 ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 24, ISSUE 6 f The 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Texas state power Southlake Carroll is known as a hitter and a prolific tackler, recording more than 100 as a junior. He's also a 3.8 student with a 30 on the ACT. Air Force also offered. T he first half dozen commitments got the ball rolling for a class that should be a large one, approaching the maximum single-year allotment of 25 scholarships. Needs are many. Some of them: Tight end: The Boilermakers lose four seniors, including what might be their top three players at the position, with un- proven (or injured) personnel in its younger ranks. This could be a two- or three-tight end class. Running back: Purdue's top two backs depart and the Boilermakers will be down four players from the group it was slated to have this season. Expect it to sign as many as three backs in this class, with Jones, Ennis and Fuller al- ready committed. Outside linebacker: Purdue signed a pair of between-the-tackles- type linebackers in its last class. Now it'll look for some suited to play more in space. Safety: As of press time, Juan Jen- kins' academic standing was very much in question, and the three remaining incoming freshmen DBs initially project as cornerbacks. With starting safeties Landon Feichter and Taylor Richards in their final seasons, Purdue will need to fill the holes. j Position Seniors Juniors Sophomores Redshirt freshmen Freshmen Quarterback Austin Appleby Danny Etling David Blough Running Back Akeem Hunt, Raheem Mostert Keith Byars II, Keyante Green, David Yancey D.J.
