Gold and Black Illustrated at 25
As we celebrate our 25th year of publishing Gold and Black Illustrated, we look back at memorable covers
while reflecting what was going on at the time.
Certainly the streak of road losses at Notre Dame had to come to an end. At least that was the sentiment
in our Sept. 15, 2000 issue as the Boilermakers prepared to make the trip to South Bend. Purdue had not won under
the Golden Dome since 1974. In 2000, the Boilermakers and their senior quarterback Drew Brees entered Notre Dame
Stadium as a five-point favorite, something that hadn't happened in decades, if ever. Yet, in the end, a former tight
end-turned-quarterback named Gary Godsey actually completed more passes than Brees. And in the end, a Nick Setta
32-yard field beat Purdue at the buzzer 23-21. Purdue did end its losing streak four years later thanks to a 41-16 win over
the Irish.

season to date."

Etling's second-quarter touchdown pass to DeAngelo Yancey Satur-
day night, giving Purdue a 14-10 lead over Notre Dame.
