It is tough to win games for the underdog team
when it commits two turnovers inside the oppo-
nent's 10-yard line. On this play, Akeem Hunt
would have likely scored from nine yards out,
but he fumbled. Notre Dame defensive lineman
Sheldon Day recovered the ball moments later.
One of the game's back-breaking plays was
Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson's
15-yard scoring run just 13 seconds before
halftime. It gave Notre Dame the lead for
good at 17-14 and turned momentum toward
the Irish heading into intermission.
For the most part, the offensive line did a good job of protecting Etling, and the sophomore quarter-
back was effective in getting the ball out of his hands in time. On this play, linebacker James Onwualu
nearly gets his hands on the ball. The Irish were able to get just four quarterback hurries and three
sacks in the game, with two of the sacks coming in the last two series of the game.
Before the start of women's basketball practice in a couple of
weeks, returning players Whitney Bays, Torri Thornton and
April Wilson (left to right) took in the action at Lucas Oil.
