IllInoIs, oct. 4 The Illini struggled in their first road game, losing at Wash- ington 44-19. Illinois got off to a slow start, falling behind 28-3 only moments into the second quarter. Quarterback Wes Lunt man- aged a season-low 230 yards through the air and could not capi- talize off Washington's depleted de- fense. Lunt also turned the ball over twice, leading to interception and fumble returns for touchdowns. The Illini running game strug- gled, too, with just 72 yards. The lone bright spot on the of- fense was junior college transfer re- ceiver Geronimo Allison, who caught six passes for 160 yards and two scores. Illinois will now face-off against Sun Belt opponent Texas State be- fore opening the Big Ten season in Lincoln against Nebraska. MIchIgan state, oct. 11 The Spartans had a bye week last week following a 46-27 loss to the Oregon Ducks in Eugene. The No. 11 Spartans come into this week's game against Eastern Michigan with the nation's 11th- ranked passing offense, led by 2014 Rose Bowl MVP Connor Cook. Two years ago, Michigan State trailed EMU 7-3 at halftime before rattling off 20 unanswered points to shut down an upset bid.
