255-pounder's 16 catch-
es this season have gone
for touchdowns, bring-
ing his career total to 15.
Another transfer,
former Eastern Michi-
gan quarterback Mark
Iannotti, guides South-
ern Illinois' offense and
does it well.
In his first season as
SIU's starter after trans-
ferring from the MAC in
the spring, the junior is
completing 72 percent
of his passes and throw-
ing for more than 210
yards per game.
He's already thrown
10 touchdown passes,
including six last week-
end against SEMO.
"They run a lot of
misdirection," Purdue
coach Darrell Hazell
said of SIU's offense.
"They want to get you
moving one way so
they can counter back
the other way and they
want the ball out of
the quarterback's hand
as quickly as they can get it out."
Defensively, Hazell expects
Southern Illinois to present chal
-
lenges with its 3-4 alignment.
"We're going to see an odd
front and a lot of zone coverage
in the back end," Hazell said. "I
don't see them pressing a whole
lot. They haven't pressed the first
three weeks at least, so we're
looking at a lot of Cover 3, some
Cover 4, in the back end and
them trying to keep (receivers)
in front of them."
Hazell said it's a "completely
different blocking scheme in a
lot of plays."
It's a new dynamic to be
faced by an offensive front that'll
introduce some new personnel,
as offensive tackle David Hedelin
debuts and is expected to rotate
in on Saturday.
"They're very talented.
They're a challenging defense,"
quarterback Danny Etling said.
"They have a different look, a to-
tally different defense than Notre
Dame. It's something we're going
to have to (shift) focus from that
last week. It was a big week, but
we've got to refocus for a totally
different defense and a different
scheme.
"The linebackers are coming,
different blitzes, totally different
coverages behind it. We have to
realize (it's) not the same game
plan either. Everything is differ
-
ent about them, so we have to
refocus this week."
