DANCE MUSIC CALLS ON SADIQ KAHN Orlando hospitals don't bill the survivors of the Pulse club shooting France bans plastic dispos- ables More news @guestlistdotnet Berghain classified as high culture All those who had to received treatment fol- lowing the Orlando club, Pulse's shooting; have not been billed. The Orlando Regional Medical Center said it would seek the payments else where like insurance plans and the victim fund. Whilst the UK establishment is at war with it's night life, Germany is embracing theirs. The infamous Berghain won a legal case that sees the venue and it's activities classified as high culture. The recognition of Berghain's impact on German culture is a stake contrast to how the British establishment sees it. By 2020 all plastic disposables including cups and plates will be made of natural materials that can be composted. The move has been made to stop the huge daily waste of products that are harmful to the planet. Green campaign- ers are calling on other countries to adopt the same laws. FABRIC CLOSED Making good on one of his promises, Sadiq Kahn and the guys at City Hall started advertising a new role in August. The decision ended weeks of uncertainty at Fabric after being forced to close as the council reviewed their license. After a tense 6 hour meeting - where Fabric, the Met and others gave evidence - the committee ruled that 'searches were inadequate and in breach of the license' and that 'a culture of drugs exists at the club which the existing management and security appear incapable of controlling'. Flora Williamson read out the ruling to permanently remove their license forcing them to shut their doors forever. Since August 12th Fabric's doors have been closed as the license was suspended following the deaths of two 18 year olds. All the while the dance music community (except DJ Sneak) rallied around the club, showing their support with a petition that more than 140,000 people signed. Sadiq Kahn and the Islington South & Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry also voiced support for the venue. A big loss to not only London, but the UK's clubbing landscape. Gentrification and money strikes again! They are looking for a Night Czar to help turn London into a truly 24 hour city. Following in the footsteps of other European cities like Amsterdam, Sadiq has established this new role to really represent the cities nightlife. The job description explains that the canidate will need to 'champion the value of London's night time culture whilst developing and diversifying London's night time economy'. The role is worth £35,000 annual at 2.5days each week. Whoever gets the job will be working with all the different agencies like the Met and TfL to 'create a vision for London as a 24-hour city and a roadmap showing how the vision will be realised.' Given the current situation in the city, the role could come at a better time. Clubs and venues need a voice to stand up for them and not bow down to pressures from property developers and gentrification. Applications we're sure will be flying given how many people love and care about our cities nightlife. Whoever bags the job will in no doubt have a big task on their hands, though we are finally walking in the right direction!
