8 ISSUE 91 / 2016 GUESTLIST WORK TO GOALS, NOT DEADLINES. GET OVER IT We all need to work towards something. Whether your motivated by happiness, wealth or health, having a tangible target is s sure fire way to keep your eyes on the prize. The problem is that too many of us work towards deadlines, rather than goals, focusing on the setbacks rather than the possibilities. A word that begins with 'dead' should really be giving the game away. When you've figured out what it is that you want to work towards, set yourself a series of realistic goals, each one slightly bigger than the last. Record your progress and always reward yourself after reaching each step, no matter how small the goal was. Whether that reward might be a new pair of shoes, a weekend away or a big night out, it's always important to praise yourself before anyone else does. And don't forget to set achievable time frames too for extra motivation. Reaching a goal that you've worked hard for is incredibly rewarding and whilst we sometimes go through life with our head in the clouds, gazing in our own wonderfully weird bubbles, it's so important to have steady goals and plans to keep us grounded and accomplished for when the you-know-what hits the fan. Try it for the next couple of months and notice how different, balanced and able you feel. Forget deadlines. Focus on goals and know the difference between being being a free spirit and just "going with the flow" because unless you're a dead fish being washed away by life, you just aren't living. It was China's first shot at hosting the G20 summit, and they weren't prepared to let anyone or anything fuck it up. CHINA TURN HANGZHOU INTO GHOST TOWN FOR G20 SUMMIT The G20 summit took place for the first time in China this year. Leaders from 20 countries and a mass of media types arrived in the Chinese megacity Hangzhou - a booming city of 6 million people - to discuss global issues. Visitors to the mammoth city were surprised then, that the usually busy streets were pretty much deserted. The Chinese government effective turned this city into a ghost town, to ensure that the conference runs very smoothly. The authorities had 'convinced' more than a third of the cities population to leave Hangzhou and declared a seven- day public holiday. Building sites and factories were forced to close in a bid to reduce pollution and residents who lived in the apartment blocks surrounding the conference centre were ordered to leave. Dissidents were placed under house arrest or removed from the city too as a huge security operation took place with armed forces and SWAT dotted across the city. Following the horrific image of Alan Kurdi's body on the Turkish beach 100,000 people marched through London, calling on the government to welcome more refugees. The march had some success as David Cameron agreed to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees over the next five years here in the UK. However a year on, 20,000 is not enough. The number of fleeing people keeps rising as the Syrian conflict rages on. Still many of these desperate people die trying to escape their war torn home. Still European politicians haven't provided safe, legal routes for these people. Amnesty International are going on the march again on September 17th, calling on Theresa May to lead the way and welcome more refugees with safe routes into our country. All those wishing to join should meet at Green Park station at 11.30am, full details are on the Amnesty website. Amnesty are marching for the refugees, and they want you to join them.
