Rolling On
The Road
It needs to start trending
upward immediately. Illinois' de-
fense Saturday could be one of
the more vulnerable Purdue has
left on its schedule, and there's
appears to be little excuse for not
taking advantage.
Whether it's Etling who gets
the chance to do that remained
to be seen as of mid-week. Hazell
was staying quiet on the starting
QB but also was supportive of
Etling and voiced confidence the
sophomore would work through
his struggles.
Now, though, it has to be
more about breaking through.
Purdue hasn't reached 200
yards in a game only 26 times
since 1970. Three of those have
been in the last two seasons un
-
der Hazell and Shoop.
This offense needs to put up
big — or at least respectable —
numbers starting now. Or the
season could go sour fast with
a significant notch in competi-
tion upcoming over the next four
games.
"We have to find some
rhythm and it's about the play-
ers finding rhythm and making
some of those plays and getting
right people in the right places,"
said Hazell, whose team has a
nine-game losing streak in the
Big Ten. "We're constantly work-
ing to make sure that gets ac-
complished." j
