GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 6 • 38 BY BRIAN NEUBERT BNeubert@GoldandBlack.com Friday will mark the beginning of college basketball practices for the 2014-15 season, with Purdue scheduled to practice for the first time officially from 2-5 p.m. The Boilermakers have been working as an entire team for two hours per week since Sept. 15 and on an individual basis pri- or, but Friday will mark the first official preseason practice for a Purdue team that includes five freshmen, at least two of whom will be heavily considered for starting positions. During the Boilermakers' full-team work- out Tuesday, guard P.J. Thompson and for- ward Vince Edwards joined returnees Kendall Stephens, Rapheal Davis and A.J. Hammons among Purdue's apparent first unit. That's obvi- ously subject to change during preseason prac- tice, but an indi- cation nonethe- less of the im- pact freshmen will have to have this season. OPEN SCRIMMAGE SCHEDULED FOR OCT. 25 In lieu of a midnight madness- type event this year, Purdue's men's basketball team will conduct an open scrimmage in Mackey Arena from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 25 as part of Boilermaker Octoberfest, a day-long event held during the football team's first open date of the year. The women's team will scrim- mage from 11 a.m. that day until 1 p.m., with both the men's and wom- en's teams being made available for an hour-long autograph session after- ward. VANDY GAME TIME SET Purdue's Dec. 13 game at Vanderbilt will tip off at 9 p.m. and be broadcast nationally on the fledgling SEC Network, it's been an- nounced.
