GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 6 • 31 tackle total against the Illini. Rob- inson has 37 already — his career high of 45 was set last season. Maybe a couple of those Sat- urday will be against a couple of fellow Rochester High School graduates. Illinois has two: Quar- terback Wes Lunt and receiver Zach Grant. Lunt replaced Robinson as Rochester's quarterback after Robinson graduated and prompt- ly led the team to back-to-back Class 4A state championships, and Grant was Lunt's top target. "It'll be exciting. There will be a lot of people from our home- town there, supporting us," Rob- inson said. Before Lunt transferred to Il- linois, he played against Purdue for Oklahoma State in the 2012 Heart of Dallas Bowl. But Robin- son was injured and missed the game. "I've never faced him on the other side of the ball. We were always together at the quarterback side at high school, so it's defi- nitely going to be definitely different," Lunt said of the matchup. "He's excited for it and so are we." STILL A CHANCE Robert Kugler probably won't practice this week — he didn't Tuesday or Wednes- day after suffering a glute strain against Iowa — but he could still play against Illinois. If Kugler continues to recover at his early-week pace, he said he thinks he'll be able to go. "From how I feel (Wednesday) com- pared to two days ago is day and night," he said. "That's the plan. Hopefully, I'll feel that much more improvement (by) Saturday." Kugler has started 24 consecutive games on the offensive line, the last two seasons at center as one of the team's lead- ers. Kugler has consistently been the line's best player this season, and he's counted on to identify defenses and call out protec- tions. If he's unable to play, sopho- more Cameron Cermin will move from tackle to center. Freshman Kirk Barron will be an option, too. Kugler rarely misses practice, often fighting through injuries, and he did not like missing this week. "There's nothing that beats practice reps," he said. "You don't win the game on Saturday, you win it during the week. This week, Tom Campbell The Boilermakers would lose a crucial piece of their offense if center Robert Kugler is unable to play after he was injured late last week. Kugler said mid-week he hopes to play. THE UNDER 200 CLUB There will be better days for the Boilermaker offense, but here is the list of the least-productive games (in total yards) dating back to 1970. During that span, the Boilermakers are 0-26 when they fail to have 200 yards in total offense. Only two teams (Coach Jim Young's 1978 and '80 squads) have failed to gain 200 yards in a game and still man- aged a winning season.
