Cornerback
1. Anthony Brown 9
5-11, 192, Jr.
21 tackles, 5 TFL, 1.5 sacks,
4 PBU*
Are opponents avoiding
Brown? Perhaps they're at least
aware of his play to start the
season. The ball doesn't seem to be going
to the perimeter frequently against the
Boilermakers. Yet Illinois will provide a real
test. Brown had three tackles and broke up a
pass vs. Iowa.
2. Da'Wan Hunte 2
5-9, 175, R-Fr.
Strong Safety
1. Frankie Williams 24
5-9, 189, Jr.
34 tackles, 2 int., 4 PBU*
Williams continues to turn in
an excellent season, adding his
second interception in the first
five games, this one returned
for a touchdown in the first quarter. On it, he
read the pass perfectly, jumping the route in
stride to get to the end zone. And he set up
Purdue's other three points with a long punt
return.
2. Taylor Richards 4
5-10, 196, Sr.
Free Safety
1. Landon Feichter 44
6-0, 192, Sr. (5)
44 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 int.*
Again, Feichter led the
Boilermakers in tackles, picking
up 11, one short of his career
high. Late in the game, too, he
blitzed up to the line of scrimmage, tackling
(with Michael Rouse) an Iowa running back
behind the line of scrimmage.
2. Austin Logan 5
6-0, 200, So.
Cornerback
1. Antoine Lewis 23
5-10, 185, Sr. (5)
16 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 3 PBU,
2 FF*
Lewis had a third-down pass
breakup that set up Iowa's
game-tying field goal at
the end of the first half. Considering the
Hawkeyes had driven to Purdue's 10 and were
threatening to take a halftime lead, it was
one of the game's biggest plays. He added a
couple tackles.
2. Leroy Clark 3
5-10, 187, So.
Rush
1. Jalani Phillips 89
6-4, 265, Sr.
17 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FR*
Defensive coordinator Greg
Hudson says Robinson is com-
ing on, and the evidence sug-
gests the same. He played more
than 30 snaps against Iowa,
and was disruptive up front, with half of his
four tackles going for loss. He brought down
C.J. Beathard once, his second career sack.
2. Gelen Robinson 13
6-1, 239, Fr.
Strongside Linebacker
1. Jimmy Herman 29
6-4, 230, So.
7 tackles*
Herman hadn't played as much
the last couple weeks, even
though he had returned from
injury, because Purdue went
with five defensive backs fre-
quently. But against rush-heavy Iowa, Herman
was back in, and played well. He had two
tackles, including one to thwart a rush, and
defended well downfield. Joe Gilliam is out for
the season (ACL), letting Garcia move in.
2. Andy James Garcia 42
6-0, 217, So.
Middle Linebacker
1. Sean Robinson 10
6-3, 239, Sr. (5)
37 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 2 PBU*
Robinson is playing the best
football of his career, having
another seven tackles against
Iowa. But his biggest play was
a pass break up on a fourth
down late in the game that kept it a two-score
margin. He also was called for a big pass inter-
ference that kept Iowa's first scoring drive alive
and changed the momentum of the game.
2. Garrett Hudson 16
6-3, 230, R-Fr.
Weakside Linebacker
1. Ja'Whaun Bentley
35
6-2, 250, Fr.
28 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU,
1 FR*
Bentley had three tackles
against the Hawkeyes, combin-
ing with Watson on a third-down tackle in the
backfield. Purdue used a four-linebacker pack-
age a handful of times against the Hawkeyes,
guessing that the visitors were going to run;
it put Ezechukwu on the field, where he had a
tackle. Ezechukwu also plays in nickel.
2. Danny Ezechukwu 36
6-2, 246, R-Fr.
End
1. Ryan Russell 99
6-5, 273, Sr.
16 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU*
Russell's not generating a lot of statistics, but he
probably wasn't going to against a rush-heavy
Hawkeye team. That'll change this week, vs. the
spread offense at Illinois. Purdue needs to get
better pass rush from its ends, certainly Russell included.
2. Evan Panfil 95
6-4, 251, So.
Nose Tackle
1. Ra'Zahn Howard 14
6-3, 323, So.
8 tackles, 1 PBU*
Howard's been a big body in the middle of
Purdue's defense, and had a couple more
tackles on Saturday. Watson, too, has played
big; against Iowa, his tackle for loss was a big
one, when he crashed through the middle of the line to bring
down big Mark Weisman on a third-and-short.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
Tackle
1. Jake Replogle 54
6-5, 269, So.
13 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 sack*
Replogle's coming on of late, and might have
had his best game as a Boilermaker vs. Iowa,
when he had five tackles, including a couple
for loss and a sack. The QB takedown came on
the game's third play, a third down that set the tone early and
forced the first of Purdue's four consecutive three-and-outs to
start the game.
2. Ryan Watson 92
6-2, 291, Jr.
