ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 25, ISSUE 2 73 f came on at the end of last season, seeing her produc- tion nearly double in the last nine games, when she av- eraged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. Confidence — or wavering confidence — has been an issue the first two seasons. Versyp and Co. have had to implore the 5-7 shooter to shoot, but she says that won't be so now. "Hopefully not," said Hamby, who had offseason an- kle surgery, but was back to 100 percent by the start of practices. "I imagine they'll still say it occasionally, but hopefully the numbers go down big-time." A former 4,485-point scorer at her high school in Ala- bama, Hamby knows she has few excuses not to score, especially now that she doesn't have to defer to Moses and Houser. "When we commit to come to Purdue, we want to play," she said. "And I think that's what every college player wants to do ultimately, so I'm excited about the opportunity this year and hopefully all the hard work pays off." Sophomore Bridget Perry (6-2) can score, after averaging 3.8 points in about 11 min- utes off the bench as a rookie. She hit 15 three-point- ers in 2013-14. And freshman Andreona Keys (5-10) is an aggressive wing, wanting to score by driving to the basket. Versyp thinks Purdue can get good production out of the trio, particularly Thornton. The junior has suf- fered knee injuries during her tenure at Purdue, but is healthier than ever now, and could give the Boilermak- ers a versatile threat. "She has to do everything," the coach said. "She is one of those intangibles. She should be in every catego- Tom Campbell Sophomore Bridget Perry could see her role expand this season, especially when the Boilermakers want more scoring from the wing. Tom Campbell At 6-foot-5, Bree Horrocks gives Purdue a big interior pres- ence defensively, but she's a good shooter, too, able to step out on the perimeter.
