Gold and Black Illustrated at 25
As we celebrate our 25th year of publishing Gold and Black Illustrated, we look back at memorable covers
while reflecting what was going on at the time.
Justin Siller had less than a handful of starting assignments at quarterback as a Boilermaker, and
none was better than his first. In our Nov. 7, 2008 issue, fans thought they were looking at Purdue's future at quarterback
when Siller led the Boilermakers to a dramatic 48-42 win over Michigan. In the game, Purdue did something it had never
done it is history: Rally from two 14-point deficits to victory.
Siller gave reason to think he was going to be special, passing for 266 yards and three TDs and rushing for 77 yards
on 15 carries. But the following year, Siller was suspended for academic reasons, and only started one more game at
quarterback again in an emergency situation in 2010 against Michigan. Kory Sheets, who is pictured with Siller, had a big
day against the Wolverines, too, with 118 yards rushing and three scores. It was the last of nine 100-yard rushing games
for his Boilermaker career, making him fourth on the all-time list.
