Walker decided to end his recruitment unexpectedly following a morning meeting at his school with Boiler- maker associate head coach Jack Owens. "It was the education — it's a great school — and the basketball side of it, being in the Big Ten, which is a great con- ference," Walker said. "They have a great coaching staff with great coaching stabil- ity. The fans are loyal; they have a lot of fans at all their games and a lot of their games are on (TV) so there's a lot of exposure. I think I'll be able to play pretty early in my career so I won't have to ride the bench for a long time. "I was 100 percent with it, so I went ahead and made my decision." When Purdue decided earlier this fall it was going to recruit a point guard in its 2016 class, Walker was the first player it turned to, offering him a scholarship dur - ing a full-staff visit to his high school in early September. Walker averaged 8.3 points and 3.2 as- sists per game as a sophomore at Tech, playing a key role on a senior-dominated Ti- tan team that ranked as one of the best high school teams in Jon Lopez/Nike Indianapolis Tech point guard C.J. Walker is Purdue's first 2016 commitment.
