This one, we didn't shoot free throws as well, but we made a lot of threes and that opened up a lot of different things." To finish the scrimmage, a team full of almost all newcomers defeated a team of all returnees. Rapheal Davis scored 24 points with nine rebounds. A.J. Hammons finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Stephen Toyra handed out seven assists. Jon Oc- teus, in his Mackey Arena debut of sorts, handed out 10 assists with no turnovers, and grabbed seven rebounds. He scored three points, mak- ing 1-of-5 from both the field and foul line. Dakota Math- ias scored 16 points, making 4-of-7 from three, and Vince Edwards scored 17, with six boards, three assists and a steal. Jacquil Taylor made 4-of-7 shots and finished with 11 points. HAMMONS WILL LOOK TO SHOOT One of the interesting de- velopments from Purdue's scrim- mages was the effectiveness with which Hammons shot the ball from the perimeter, making three three- pointers — and looking good do- ing it — on five tries between the two sessions. "I didn't put that much work into (shooting this summer)," Ham- mons said, "because I had to (focus on) my post game, with what my bread-and-butter is. But I did put a little more work into it, because when I do play with Isaac (Haas), I'm going to have to step out." Painter has indicated that Hammons, who missed all five of his three-point tries as a sopho- more, has the green light to shoot threes as long as they're "good, rhythm shots." j ... all the services ... all the food ... all the comfort ... all the fun YourWindow_GoldandBlack_August10_electronic.indd 1 8/20/2010 2:26:24 PM FLASH FORWARD Opponent: California (Pa.)
