A lifelong collector, Spindler studied literature at Brown and Yale Universities before training at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London. He is an overseer at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and has served on the Council for Collections Committee of Historic New Eng- land, and on behalf of the Cape Ann Museum in Gloucester.
