AUGUST 2015 nshoremag.com | 33 Karen Scalia is founder and owner of five- star-rated Salem Food Tours and North Shore Food Tours. She has a background in event planning and brings her love of the area's vibrant culinary scene, as well as local sourcing, and passion for seasonal eating to every tour. She is also an actor and voice-over artist and sits on the Board of New England SAG-AFTRA. Writer Alexandra Pecci loves too many things about the North Shore to count, but here are a few faves: the gorgeous, handicap-accessible Crane Beach, Cider Hill Farm's CSA, Benson's homemade native strawberry ice cream, treasure hunting at Todd Farm, and the ode- to-Haverhill beers at The Tap Brewing Company. Jeanne O'Brien Cof- fey comes from a long line of New England foodies—her dad once traded an old car for a dozen Marblehead lobsters. And her grandmother's whoopie pie recipe is a closely guarded family secret. Coffey, who has written for Zagat restaurant guides and edited two books in the Great Res- taurants of the World series, loves searching the North Shore to find what's new. A frequent contributor to North- shore print editions, she is a contributor to ForbesLife, covering food, drink, and travel. The Newburyport resi- dent enjoys tide-pooling with her kids at Sandy Point, craft cocktails, and caviar. Brandy Rand is a drinks writer, teacher, and marketer. Her favorite subject is "Women & Whiskey," but she'll never turn down a clas- sic Negroni or glass of Champagne. When she's not perched on a bar stool (doing research, of course), you'll find her on a bike teaching spin classes or digging for treasures at Todd Farm flea market. Calvin Hennick attend- ed elementary school in Rockport for two years and spent summers as a teenager visiting fam- ily in Salem. His writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, Runner's World, Esquire, and other publications. Cal- vin recently took a tour of North Shore steak houses to weigh in on the best of the best! MEET THE 2015 BONS COMMITTEE A longtime writer, Bren- dan Coffey has had too much to drink with Michel Rolland, too much to eat with Ferran Adria, and too much to talk about with Donald Trump. He has written for Business- week, Forbes, Fortune, Esquire, and many other publications. He wanders the North Shore search- ing for good food and drinks, in moderation. Sarah Shemkus is an award-winning freelance journalist, accomplished baker, cheese enthusiast, occasional globe-trotter, and total nerd. Sarah writes about business, technology, food, and the places where they all meet. Among her favorite North Shore haunts are the rocky trails of Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, the crowded aisles of used bookstore Man- chester-by-the-Book, and Stage Fort Park in her adopted hometown of Gloucester, especially on farmers' market days. Chloe Barcelou is a local stylist, fashion and fine art photographer, and model. She has been featured in publications such as Som- erset Studio magazine, Amateur Photographer, Dark Beauty magazine, and New Hampshire magazine. She has recently started to transition into film. Whether talking to beer brewers, backyard chicken keepers, mixed martial arts fighters, or marine scientists, freelance writer Jeff Harder feels at home. Along with being a con- tributor to Northshore and a former managing editor at Cape Cod Life magazine, he has had articles in The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, Esquire.com, and Triath- lete magazine, among other outlets. A onetime North Andover resident, he fondly remembers all the afternoons he should have spent work- ing that he spent hiking up Weir Hill with his bulldog instead. A native Bostonian, Alexandra Hall studied at Wheaton College in Massachusetts and Le Cordon Bleu Institute in Paris, France, where she simultaneously wrote for the International Herald Tribune and The New York Times. She is currently a freelance writer for publications including Condé Nast Traveler, bon appétit, Town & Country, and Elle Decor. A longtime North Shore resident, Charlotte Roth writes, reads, and haunts local bookstores. She is always on the hunt for the best Indian food and weighed in this year on her favorite pick. Charlotte is a frequent contributor to Northshore, and her work has appeared in Cape Cod Home and The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine.
